The 10 Best Candy Stores in San Antonio (A Local’s Opinion)

best candy stores san antonio

Calling all sugar lovers! Whether you’re trying to sate your intense craving for chocolate or you’re curious about San Antonio’s proliferation of Mexican candy, you’re in the right place.

In my humble opinion, San Antonio has some of the best candy stores in all of Texas. Of course, some spots are better than others…

If you’re looking for the best candy stores in the Alamo City, here are my personal top 10.

Map of the Best Candy Stores in San Antonio

Most Affordable Candy Store: Alamo Candy Company

I love Alamo Candy Company because it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store. It’s a mom-and-pop shop, but it’s surprisingly clean and organized. There are rows of candy in this place, and they stock a lot of bulk options, too. I once hosted a party with a candy bar, and I loaded up on treats here without busting my budget.

One of the coolest things about Alamo Candy Company is its pinatas. Our family doesn’t really need an excuse to buy a pinata, but we definitely whip them out for birthdays and Easter. Alamo Candy has basic party pinatas, but they also have nicer pinatas for baby showers and weddings, too.

They stock more than candy here. You can pick up bottles of soda, syrup for raspas (snowcones), and even huge jars of dill pickles. If you’re doing a theme party, Alamo Candy sorts every candy by type and color, which makes it a cinch to find candy that fits your color scheme.

Best High-End Candy Store: Lolli and Pops

Lolli and Pops is a modern, high-end candy store that you’ll find at North Star and La Cantera Malls. Lolli and Pops has the vibe of a down-home candy store, but this place is fancy. When we went inside Lolli and Pops with our three nieces, I found myself immediately warning them all, “Don’t touch ANYTHING.”

That kind of stinks to say to kids, but the employees here watch the little ones like hawks. Make sure you stay with your kids if you let them loose in Lolli and Pops!

Aside from that, Lolli and Pops has a lot of cool stuff that you won’t find elsewhere, like caramel corn, high-end truffles, gourmet Rice Krispy treats, fancy cotton candy, and even macarons.

  • Address 1: North Star Mall, 7400 San Pedro Ave Suite 134, San Antonio, TX 78216
  • Address 2: 15900 La Cantera Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78256

Best Candy In Bulk: IT’SUGAR

IT’SUGAR is the quintessential “mall candy store” and our nieces and nephews go CrAzY in here. The bright colors, bulk candy bins, and fun design make you feel like you’re in Willy Wonka’s factory.

The best draw for IT’SUGAR is the candy bulk bins, where you get as much candy as you want and then pay by the pound. I recommend checking the weight beforehand, though, because the kiddos will clean you out if you aren’t careful!

  • Address: 849 E Commerce St #681, San Antonio, TX 78205

Best Mexican Candy Store: La Dulceria

La Dulceria is Spanish for “The Candy Store.” This place is, hands down, one of the best spots in San Antonio to get your Mexican candy fix.

A lot of the candy features chile limon, which makes the candy tangy, salty, and spicy. That’s not my jam, but my Latino husband goes nuts every time he sees a pack of Pulparindo.

Whether it’s De La Rosa marzipan, pica pepino (spicy pickle), or paletas, La Dulceria has the exotic Mexican treats you crave. If you’re visiting San Antonio, this is a fun place to taste the amazing, unique flavors of Mexico!

  • Address: 1512 Basse Rd, San Antonio, TX 78213

Best Candy Store For Parties: The Candy Store

The Candy Store is on the west side of San Antonio, which makes it a bit of a drive for most San Antonians, but if you’re in the Sea World area, you’ve got to try it out! This is a small mom-and-pop store that makes adorable candy bags for parties. They also stock a mix of old-school candies like taffy and all of the new-school faves we love.

If you’re trying to put together affordable party bags or even an impressive candy gift basket, these are the people to see.

Best Candy for Adults: Mexican Candy CBD

Leave the kids at home for this one! Mexican Candy makes delicious infused edibles for an 18+ audience. Cannabis edibles are illegal in Texas, but CBD is 100% legal here. If you want to unwind with CBD-infused gummy sugar skulls, this is the place to go!

I take CBD daily for pain relief, and occasionally treating myself to infused candy from Mexican Candy makes it way more fun! (And it tastes better than a tincture, believe me)

Best Chocolate Shop: Chocolazzo

Chocolazzo is, hands down, the best chocolate shop in San Antonio.

It’s a higher-end shop that clearly cares about the quality of its chocolate. Personally, I buy a box of their gourmet chocolates at least 2 – 3 times a year (and I would buy more often if it were cheaper!!).

They also have more affordable chocolate bars, gummy bears, and candies for sale, too.

  • Address: 4013 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209
  • Website: Chocolazzo

Most Unique Candy Store: Candy Machine

Honestly, Candy Machine has something for everybody. From seasonal Pez dispensers to special-edition Warheads, Candy Machine carries some of the most obscure, interesting candy I’ve ever seen. I mean, how could you say no to chocolate bacon??

P.S. They also sell candies with alcohol! Let the kids pick what they want while you pick up a box of Bailey’s-filled chocolates.

Best Old-Timey Candy Store: Popcorn Picadilly

This nostalgic candy store is flippin’ adorable! They specialize in old-timey candy like Charleston Chew, Mallo Cups, and even small-batch sodas. If you’re hunting for a nostalgic sweet from your childhood, Popcorn Picadilly is the place to go.

One of the best things about Popcorn Picadilly, though, is that they make some really neat popcorn flavors! My personal favorite is Green Apple, but they also make more savory flavors like Pickle. My husband is a popcorn fiend, so we always leave with bags of gourmet popcorn.

  • Address: 15069 Interstate 35 North, Frontage Road Suite 206, Selma, TX 78154

Best Candy Store in Downtown San Antonio: River Street Sweets

Located in the Rivercenter Mall, River Street Sweets is, hands down, one of the best candy stores in the downtown area. The sheer selection here is mind-blowing, but nothing is wanting for flavor.

If you’re visiting the mall, you HAVE to stop here. It’s a massive candy store that stocks a dizzying number of delicacies, including caramel popcorn, gourmet pretzels, caramels by the pound, gelato, cookies, brownies, cakes, and (of course) their signature pralines.
