Once upon a time, the poor chicken wing was an outcast of the culinary world, relegated to filler for stocks and stews.
Thankfully, those days are long gone. Today, The Wing has earned its rightful spot as one of the most deliciously spicy, crispy, and addicting appetizers. (Or if you’re like me, main event entrees, because what could be better?)
I’m also happy to report that San Antonio is one city that gives the glorious wing the attention it deserves, and we now have tons of restaurants all over town with amazing wings.
From super spicy wings, to extra crunchy wings, to wings crafted up by James Beard award winning chefs… here’s our picks for the 10 best wings in San Antonio.

Best Family-Sized Wings: WingIt
In 2014, two wing food trucks combined to form the wing juggernaut that is WingIt. I’m a huge fan of their Dr. Pepper sauce, which is sweet with a mild kick. Look out for the Hot Damn Wings—it’s at the top of the spice scale at WingIt (and definitely don’t rub your eyes after you eat them; #TalkingFromExperience). WingIt has some of the best family wing meals in San Antonio, though. You can snag a 40-piece combo with two large fries, 4 different flavors, 2 veggies, and a 2-liter of soda on the cheap.

Most Authentic Buffalo Wings: Anchor Bar
Hailing from the Mecca of chicken wings in Buffalo, New York, Anchor Bar’s buffalo wings give San Antonians a taste of the East coast down south. Anchor Bar sells traditional wings, boneless “Anchor Bites,” and even meatballs with a variety of sauces. Choose from lemon pepper to sweet ‘n’ sour to Extreme (if you dare).
P.S. If you’re in a burger mood, try the Chicken Wing Burger. It’s topped with—you guessed it—buffalo sauce and a signature chicken wing.

Best Beer And Wings: Gold Feather
When you’re Jonesing for wings and beer, go to Gold Feather. This San Antonio eatery specializes in wings and beer, serving up OG wings, fried chicken sandwiches, and even chicken and waffles. With sauces like Sasquatch BBQ, Slap Yo Momma, and Midnight Cowboy, Gold Feather’s sauces are nothing to shake a stick at, either.
P.S. Gold Feather also serves cauliflower nuggets for the plant-based folks in your life.
- Address: 834 Northwest Loop 410 Suite 106, San Antonio, TX 78216

Most Creative Wings: Attagirl
Cullum’s Attagirl is far from your typical wing shack. This joint has attitude and a lot of spunk, which translates right into their food. What sets Attagirl apart is their 48-hour buttermilk bath and seasoning mix, which makes their chicken wings incredibly moist and crunchy. Mmmm. I love their ultra-creative wing specials, too. Try the Heartbreaker, which is wings coated in (I kid you not) peanut butter and jelly. They also serve the San Antonio Hot: a spicy wing that’s #NoRefundsHot with crema, cotija, cilantro, and pickled jalapenos.
- Address: 726 E Mistletoe Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212

Best Gourmet Wings In San Antonio: Gunslingers
While Gunslingers might be less customizable than other wing restaurants, you can’t beat the gourmet flavors from its James Beard Award-winning chef. I recommend sticking with the 8-wing combo that comes with fries or tots, a drink, and carrots and celery. The combo will set you back about $16, but trust me: the creative flavors are worth it. Try Gunslingers’ Ancho Chili Peach Wings, Coffee Blackened Wings, or Sticky Thai Coconut Wings for unique flavors you won’t find anywhere else in the city.

Best Dry Rub Wings: Wild Wing Station
Look, sometimes the best part about wings is their sauce, but if I’m honest, there’s nothing better than a crisp dry rub wing, too. Wild Wing Station serves up buffalo, lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, honey mustard, garlic pepper, and plenty of other wet wings to satisfy your wing cravings. But you should also check out their dry lemon pepper or dry seasoning wings too! Every wing meal comes with fries, celery, a drink, and your choice of bleu cheese or ranch dressing, so this is definitely a complete meal and not a snack.

Best Wings in Downtown San Antonio: Gus’s Fried Chicken
Sick of frozen chicken wings? You won’t find them at Gus’s. This fried chicken establishment never uses frozen chicken and fries everything in peanut oil—so you know it’s going to be amazing. This restaurant hails from Tennessee originally, but fortunately, we have our own slice of Mason, TN goodness right here in the Alamo City.
I recommend ordering Gus’s 3 piece wing meal that comes with baked beans, slaw, and white bread. If you want more than 3 wings, you can also buy them individually.

Hottest Wings In San Antonio: Native Grill & Wings
Spice-seekers rejoice! Native Grill has all of the spicy wings that you crave. With sauces like GHOST, Jalapeno, Honey Hot, Strawberry Hot, and Habanero Mango, you’ll have your pick of the litter at Native Grill when it comes to spicy wings. But if spice isn’t your thing, you’ve still got to stop by Native Grill. They have daily specials as well as a daily happy hour from 2 PM – 7 PM, which make it the perfect after-work hangout.

Biggest Chicken Wings: Wayne’s Wings
Nobody wants to eat puny chicken wings. And when you dine at Wayne’s, you get bonafide big-bite wings. They cook these wings more like fried chicken, which gives them an unbelievable crunch. You can try either bone-in or boneless wings at Wayne’s, but rumor has it that their Creeper Wings are supposed to be spicy AF. Rated as the Best Black-Owned Restaurant of 2020 by the San Antonio Current, Wayne’s is a must for anyone with taste buds.

Best Wings And Waffles: Wing’z Waffles and More
There’s no combination more heavenly than crunchy chicken and a sweet waffle. At Wing’z Waffles and More, you get the best of both waffles and wings here in the Alamo City. Choose from buffalo, barbecue, or lemon pepper for your wing-stravaganza. They don’t have as many sauce options as other wing establishments, but boy, do they know how to fry up a mean waffle.
