I’ve eaten a mostly plant-based diet for several years now. While I cook most of my meals at home, every now and then I feel the siren call of good takeout.
But what’s a vegan to do? Sure, I could grab an Impossible Whopper or a bucket of KFC’s Beyond Nuggets, but where’s the fun in that?
Although San Antonio prides itself on meat, barbecue, and cheese, there are plenty of good eats here for vegans and vegetarians, too. Whether you’re 100% vegan or you’re just trying to cut down on meat or dairy, these San Antonio vegan restaurants have been my go-tos for years.

Best Vegan Fast Food: Project Pollo
Project Pollo is the only vegan restaurant that my meat-loving husband will frequent. And that’s fine by me! Everything at Project Pollo is vegan, including their house-made sauces, bacon, and loaded potatoes.
Project Pollo also has a philanthropic side. They’re trying to make vegan food just as tasty and affordable as non-vegan options. Their pay-what-you-can People Burger (no, it isn’t made out of people) makes vegan food accessible in areas like downtown San Antonio, which is really cool.
My go-to here is the Deluxe Project, which comes with crunchy bacon, cheese, and some of the best pickles I’ve ever had in my life. Project Pollo is always adding new menu items, though, so if you see something that looks good, order it! I’ve also had the buffalo mac, shakes, and burgers and everything here is amazing.
- Address: Multiple! They’re expanding fast, so check out their Locations for the most up-to-date information.

Best Vegan Burger: Blissful Burgers
I happened upon Blissful Burgers completely by accident. They’re located in a random shopping center off the highway, but they make some darn good vegan cheeseburgers. Since they’re on my way home from the gym, I’ve been known to get my protein from their patty melt and AMAZING seasoned fries.
P.S. They get a little too happy with the vegan cheese here. I recommend asking for just one slice of cheese instead of two because vegan cheese has a weird texture if there’s too much of it.

Best Vegan Restaurant Near The Riverwalk: HASH Vegan Eats
The fellas who run HASH are downright cool. They opened HASH in a rougher area of town to give folks not only amazing vegan food, but a dry bar! That’s right: this is a bar that caters to sober folks who want to sip on a tasty beverage with their vegan goodies.
I had their mocktail Old Fashioned, which was actually pretty convincing, all things considered. My non-vegan husband bravely tried the buffalo mac, and I got the crispy cauliflower tacos. It was great!
The seating does get cramped here, though, so I recommend either visiting during off-peak hours or ordering to-go.

Best Vegan Mexican Food In San Antonio: Vegan Avenue
Vegan Avenue makes some of the best darn vegan food I’ve ever tried. Everything here is gluten-free, too, which is a nice perk. If you want vegan Mexican food, this is the place to go. I’ve literally had dreams about their al pastor tacos, and I always make sure to order their dragon fruit lemonade with every order.
Vegan Avenue also has a kids’ menu and an outdoor seating area that’s pooch-friendly. If you want a nice, sit-down dining experience that’s totally vegan, this is the place to be.
Like HASH, Vegan Avenue is in a busy area and has limited seating. I recommend calling your order in and picking it up to go.

Best Vegan Brunch In San Antonio: Plantology
Any time I get a hankering for chicken and waffles, I swing by Plantology. It’s a little pricey at $16 a plate, but I’ll pay any price for a crispy piece of chik’n on a perfectly browned waffle. I’m also obsessed with Plantology’s lavender lemonade, so make sure you grab a glass.
Honestly, Plantology is the best vegan breakfast and brunch spot in the city. They do the tempeh bacon and tofu scramble just the way I like it, and their smoothies make for a great to-go snack, too.

Best Vegan Barbecue in San Antonio: Binge Kitchen
I confess that, since going mostly vegan, I miss the succulent crispiness of fried chicken. A San Antonio vegan Facebook group recommended Binge Kitchen, and I’m so glad I found them! These folks do fried chicken and other soul food classics right—and everything happens to be vegan, too.
I usually go for the smothered chik’n and gravy, but they’re well-known for their vegan barbecue, too. I like the chopped BBQ sliders, but their honey hot chik’n sliders are on my radar, too.
P.S. Binge Kitchen is closed on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so get your chik’n fix before then!

Best Vegan Coffee: Revolucion Coffee + Juice
I can’t express how much I love Revolucion. I fell in love with their juices and dairy-free milks years ago, before I was vegan, but I love them even more today. First of all, Revolucion knows how to make a badass cup of joe, but their brunch food is truly divine, too. Actually, I like to make a version of Revolucion’s Esquite Bowl at home because I love it so much!
Their tamal plate, pulled pork sandwich, poke bowl, and smoothie bowls are awesome, too. Their food is a little pricey, but if you’re trying to convert someone to veganism, this is the place to take them. That’s how tasty everything is.

Best Omnivore Restaurant With Vegan Options: The Cove
There’s no place in San Antonio that’s quite like The Cove. I’ve been eating here since 2010 and love everything on the menu. Back in my meat-eater days, I would order the blue bison burger with sweet potato fries. But these days, I’m all about the vegan bacon cheeseburger and nachos.
If you’re looking for a rad atmosphere with live music—as well as non-vegan options for the omnivores in your life—The Cove is the best place to spend your Friday night.

Best Vegan Pizza in San Antonio: Righteous Pie
Who says vegan food has to be “healthy?” You can still get your pizza fix if you’re a San Antonio vegan. Righteous Pie is a pizza food truck that’s vegan and vegetarian-friendly. With dairy-free cheese and veggie toppings, their pizzas are so delicious that my husband couldn’t believe it was vegan.
P.S. Righteous Pie is only open Thursday – Sunday for dinner. It opens at 7 PM most nights, so it’s a good spot for a late dinner on the St. Mary’s strip.

Best Vegan Desserts in San Antonio: Miss Chickpea’s
I’m gonna shoot straight with y’all: I was PMSing bad one day and NEEDED to get my sugar fix. After a bit of Googling, I saw that Miss Chickpea’s is the go-to stop in San Antonio for vegan desserts.
And boy, they hooked me up! I got a Vegansito bar (my fave), cinnamon roll, red velvet cake, and tart. (Don’t judge; I was hungry!) Miss Chickpea’s also serves Mexican-inspired vegan dishes like the Mexican Chancla if you want more than dessert, too.
